Since you know you're at risk, the best thing you can do for yourself is get your exercise & your way-of-eating (WOE) squared away. Might not even hurt to get a meter & take an occasional after-meal reading. An hour or so after meals will give you the real indication of rising blood glucose. I know the docs always want fastings, but the postprandials tell the tale a lot earlier than fastings.
