Hi everyone! I'm here in hopes of getting some information and making good decisions about my health. I'm 36 years old and not necessarily in good health. I have had fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis since I was 16 years old. I was very active until I started having babies at 24yrs old and then everything just kind of went downhill healthwise. I started feeling like the doctors were just throwing more and more medications at me and not actually trying to figure out what was wrong so I am now taking matters into my own hands and investigating my symptoms.

I have NOT been diagnosed but feel like I probably fall into the "pre-diabetic" category.

I bought a ReliOn meter from Wal-Mart and started testing since there is a family history of diabetes. I'm hoping that I can find some useful information here.

Usually fasting is around 119 and 2 hours post meal I am between 138-158 depending on carbs. I've had several fasting readings at 129-131. My A1C was 5.4% but was thru a home test kit and not at the doctor's office.

Thank you so much for the info. I also wondered about the autoimmune disorder affects. I have read that plaquenil that I take can sometimes lower blood glucose so I am afraid my numbers might be even higher if I were not on that med. I will most definitely speak to my doctor about the test you mentioned!

Thank you all so much. I was beginning to feel like I was losing my mind a bit. When you bring up the topic of possibly being diabetic with some people and/or doctors they seem to think you couldn't possibly have been the one to figure it out.....but why not? It's our body and we know when something is wrong with it. I was the same way when I insisted having labs done for arthritis. At 16 years old everyone just tried to laugh it off, but it was there, and the doctor couldn't explain away the lab results.

*Update* My family doc acted like I was crazy when I went back and demanded further testing so I got myself into an endocrinologist who drew his own labs and looked at my BG reading history. He began treating me for prediabetes within a week of when my family doc ignored me. Lesson learned: when you don't agree with something get a 2nd or 3rd opinion, even if it means calling the specialist yourself and doing a little sweet talking to get an appt w/o a referral!
