Hello. I am happy to have found this forum. Maybe now I can get some answers to things that has been in my mind for a few years.

I have not been diagnosed with Diabetes. But I have a feeling thats not too far away.

I am 39 (almost 40) years old. Two grown children (22 and 20 Daughters) and one Grandchild (6 months old). Not married. And have a long long line of Diabetes in my family among all the ladies. Not men!

A little history about myself. I have been diagnosed (two years ago) with Cataracts. Apparently I have had this for many many years. Though not sure how long. Cataracts is comman in those with Diabetes is what my mom told me about my Grandmother. And Great Grandmother.

I also have other symptoms, constant Dry mouth, frequent urination, and extreme impaired vision. I get the shakes real bad and real bad headaches if I do not eat.

I have never been Obese. But in the last two years (because of the bad eyes) I have been doing home Daycare. I have gained a considerable amount of weight. I am about 180 now. Thats considerable in my eyes for me.

I don't have a complete and clear understanding of Diabetes but thats where this forum comes in.

I would like to ask questions and read things that others post.

I am not really sure what all goes on here in this forum. But thats for me to find out and learn.

I hope to make some friends here too. That share the same desires I have about this forum.

Why did I pick this forum? I have no idea. I hope I have made the right choice. Only time will tell about that too. It was the first to come up in Google Search. And generally that is the number one seach results that come up that others have chosen too. So that must mean you all come highly recommended.

Well, Here I go. And if anyone has any questions feel free to ask me anytime. Anything.

Have a great day. I am off to check out what all you have to offer us here.

Hello Nina, welcome to our community! I assume your female relatives have type 2 rather than type 1 diabetes, is that correct? With relatives having diabetes that makes it much moe likrly that you will have daibetes too unless you stay at a healthy weight and eat low carb foods and an overall healthy diet. Exercise every day is important too. I hope you will lose that weight as soon as possible. If you do you may not have to start using diabetes medication. I advise you to see an endocrinologist (diabetes specialist) and get an accurate diagnosis. Ask all the questions you want in the meantime. Welcome aboard.

Let me say yes, you made a good decision to join this forum. There are many wonderful people here. I think you should make an appointment with your doctor and explain to him/her your concerns. Ask for a fasting blood glucose and a hemoglobin A1C test. This will help answer whether you are diabetic or not. Then you can either 1.) rest easy you are not diabetic or 2.) take steps to control your diabetes through diet, exercise and medication if necessary. I truly encourage you to get some answers through your doctor. We can certainly help you and answer questions, but we cannot diagnose! Let us know what you find out. Good luck.
