Hello,
My son has T1D. Diagnosed at 17 years old, now 24 years old. He graduated college, now working, and living on his own in a different city. I believe this place is just to introduce myself - so Hello everyone! I'm very thankful to have found this forum.
My son had an episode last night that I need help with, but I'll try to find the appropriate thread to post that.

Decided to post my immediate issues here:
My son has T1D. Diagnosed at 17 years old, now 24 years old. He graduated college, now working, and living on his own in a different city. The living on his own part is what freaks me out. Over the 7 years he's had diabetes, he's had 2 hypoglocemic seizures.
Last night something happened, and that's what drove me to find and join this forum. I sure am thankful to have found y'all.
He has a Minimed 530G pump with Enlite and a CGM. I thought this technology would put all of our fears to rest. We think this is what happened last night - long story short. Apparently his BG was on the lower side all night, 70, when he woke up for work he was in the 60s but also discovered a bruised, cut and swollen knee; rug burn and cuts on his ankle. We think his pump alarms were sounding quite a bit (he never hears the alarms) he woke up and was going to get something to treat his low - he probably fell and knocked into a few things, never treated the low and went back to bed. Some miracle occurred that made him still wake up today.
I'm not sure if I'm even posting all of this right place. Please tell me if I should move this post. We need to equip him with something louder that will wake him up. The alarms on the pump don't do the job. I've read that many other folks have the problem of not hearing alarms at night. I called Medtronic this morning, they told me about My Sentry, but it is not FDA approved for my son's pump.
Does anyone know of a device we can use that will amplify the alarms on his pump? Any other advice is truly welcome! Thank you!

Welcome to the forum MarsyDarsy! I too know nothing about pumps, sorry, just wanted to welcome you. We have several pumpers and I'm sure one will be around in time to help you. How scary that must have been for your son and you too!!

I know there are dogs trained to sense a low and wake up their owner. Maybe that is something to consider.

Would your son be amenable to joining our forum? I think it would be good for him to know others who have lived the journey he travels, and have worked through issues like this. We have several members who've spent decades and continue to thrive - and pumpers using all kinds of different pumps.

Might there be a device that would hear the alarm and, if no one responds to the alarm, would make a call to you (or someone else) to check on your son? I know that such devices or similar ones are available for older people and for babies. Good luck.

What about a dog trained to detect hypos and alert the type I or summon help? Yes, they really exist. Programs :: Dogs4Diabetics

I know someone who has one.
