Just came in looking for info on type 1. My friend has been testing with levels from 578- 308 over the last three days. What a shock! We will meet with a Dr. tomorrow.

A hopeful article I already found is a "possible" cure in the future. Like to go the natural route as much as possible. He has no insurance.

So I will keep you informed of my searches and I hope to learn so much from sharing with you.

welcome Gerken :) you're a good friend to do the research and learn about this disease. Coming from my own point of view as a diabetic, it would be so much easier if people understood what I was talking about and going through... but that isn't the case the majority of the time. I'm still trying to educate my own family on what I'm dealing with. So it's quite refreshing to hear people willing to learn so they can be a good support to family/friends. I'm sure you will learn lots just by reading posts on this forum. I hope your friend is Ok and gets treatment quickly. Do they already have an endo? At this stage there is no cure, but we do our best to manage our blood sugar. Keep us posted.

Hi and welcome. FYI, if your friend is truly a T1 they'll be using insulin right away. There is no way around that. So....if that's the diagnosis get your friend the books Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner or Using Insulin by John Walsh. Each book gives detailed information on how to optimize an insulin regimen. They would make a really worthwhile gift from an understanding and caring friend.

The best doctor for your friend is an endocrinologist (diabetes specialist). A correct diagnosis and treatment is so important in the beginning stages. Some doctors make the wrong diagnosis, that is the reason for starting with the best type of doctor. Those blood sugar numbers are terribly high and could make your friend very sick. He desperately need insulin as soon as possible.

I have been type 1 for 65 years and am very healthy. Tell your friend that if he takes his diabetes seriously, and works very hard to have good control, he can have a long, healthy life. Good luck with the doctor appointment!

Hello gerken and welcome to the forum. There is a wealth of information here on the forum, read what interests you and do a search for anything you can't find. There is no cure for diabetes right now. I hope you have time to visit the forum often and take care.
