I have been taking some prescription medications that increase blood glucose levels. I was on prednisone for pneumonia and I covered that with extra insulin with little to no problems. I am now taking Lasix and my blood glucose is running about 40 points higher than normal all day long. My doctor says that I need to be on this drug but never mentioned that it would cause my blood glucose to climb. I found that out by the patient information given with the RX and on the web and then by my higher than normal readings. I really hate to keep taking more insulin, but I don't know what else to do. Any thoughts?

Gosh, I really dont know what else you can do. You have to cover it. You can ask your doc about it, I dont know if increasing any of your oral meds would help. Let us know what you find out.

I wish I knew how to cover it, I guess it will take some time to find out how much more insulin that I need to take to cover it. Remember me Pam? I am the one who used to have all of the lows. Now, I am lucky to have a fasting in the low 100's. This disease does some strange things.

Yeah it really does. I find that even when I am having allergy issues...which it seems like constantly right now...my blood sugars run high. Constant vigilance!
