Very happy to have you back, Jennifer!
Hey Jennifer! Good to see you again :)
I am new--have had type 1 for about a year---heavy drinking and pancreatitis caused 1/3 of pancreas to die. I take 35 units of Lantus plus anoter 4 units of Novalog. I also take 1000mg Milk thistle twice a day---without the milk thistle my blood sugar goes whacky. Interesting to see that you use milok thistle too.
I'm new to the board and recently have taken to better managing my health. I'm glad to hear the only plug that was pulled appears to be your internet and not life support...although this form may be a valuable life support.

Yes I will keep using it. I noticed that when I ran out of it once, I just never replaced it...and didnt take it for about 3 weeks. I really noticed the difference. I was having more unexplained highs and lows...I couldnt figure out what the problem was and then remembered the milk thistle. I went straight to the store and bought some. Within about a week a started going back to my 'normal' again. Coincidence? maybe....but I wont stop taking again :)

By the way...welcome to the forum :)
Pam---I had the same experience. I had been taking milk thistle for years to protect my liver. After I quit drinking I decided to quite the milk thistle. My blood sugar went wacky and I couldn't figure out why---until I thought about what changes I had made.

What is metformin?

Normano
Nice to meet you.
What is metformin?
Metformin is the generic name of Glucophage, one of the oral drugs used to combat insulin resistance without hammering the pancreas to make more insulin. An oldie but a goodie - it's been around for many years & has a good track record.

Used more for type 2s, but many type 1s find it useful too, if they develop insulin resistance.
