I'm having so many symptoms of diabetes the past few years, I'm incredibely thirsty. My heart is racing and I'm trembling and feeling faint, untill I drink a liter. That only helps for a few minutes, then I'm thirsty again.

My urine smells funny, chemically, I don't know how to describe it. Somewhere between rubber and ammonia/methylated spirits or so.

I never can stop eating. I feel faint, tired, deconcentrated and blurred vision when I don't eat for a while.

3 years ago my GP tested my blood once, it was too low but he said it was because I dont' eat. He thinks I am anorexic because of my weight loss, and I can't talk that out of his mind. Now he doesn't want to test my blood again.

My urine has been tested but I only know there were some ketones in, can they see diabetes in every urine test? Now it was just for PH and bacteria.

The acupuncture lady said my pancreas is having a very hard time working. I go there because I'm heavily constipated.

Well, the question I wanted to ask... can I test my own blood for glucose? My GP doesn't want to, I do, is there a reliable test available (I live in the Netherlands, so local stores won't do )

I cant say about the Netherlands but in most of the world you can get a blood glucose tester at the Drug store or pharmacy and test your self. how about a different Dr.

While treating diabetes is very much up to each person (with the Dr help, diagnosing it is best left to the professional. those symptoms could be caused by any number of problems. You doing treatment on the wrong ailment may do more harm than good.

Ah thanks, yea I know it might have other causes but I have had so many tests last few years but none of them were for diabetes. It might just be for my own comfort if I could test myself for a day. I'll check the over-the-counter-drugstore nearby.

Welcome to our support forum, and I agree you would do well to get a tester and take your own readings for awhile. Just one reading doesn't give much information, but if you would test in the morning before eating anything, and then again two hours after you eat a meal, that would give a bigger picture of what is going on. Keep a log that you can use to verify when you see a doctor. Write down what your readings are, and write down what you eat also. Be sure to note the times of your readings and meals. Try this for a week or two, and then if you're getting high readings, take your results to the doctor.

I also rather agree with diabetes86 in that it would be good to see a different medical professional.

If glucose meters are not locally available, perhaps you can order one via web. Make sure it comes with a lancet device and lancets. Once you have your meter, let us know what your test results are.

Granny's advice is great. Sometimes doctors need to be hit over the head with information before they'll take you seriously.

I agree....get a meter if you can...if you cant find one you can order them online. I cant understand why a doctor would refuse to test you for something as basic as a blood sugar at your request though. I dont think I would be too comfortable with someone that dismissed my concerns so easily.

Do you mind me asking how tall you are? 37 kilos is about 82 pounds (US). Depending how tall you are, by some doctors you might be considered under weight. In my late teens, I went through a period of a couple of years when I was having problems with my teeth and I had to have quite a bit of surgery done and I lost weight really fast. At 5'3" and 90 pounds I was not very healthy and my doctor had concerns about my weight. I had to drink a milkshake twice a day to boost my weight. Back then, they didn't test your blood unless something was wrong with you. If I would have approached my doctor about something as serious as diabetes, he would have wanted some substantial reasons why I was worried about diabetes. Don't get me wrong diabetes doesn't come with an age limit. Get your own blood glucose meter and start testing, this should give you some valuable information to go on.

Getting a glucose meter is important. Many are available on Amazon. That is where I have gotten many of my meters and strips are cheaper there. It is important to know where your bgs are at. Many times diabetes starts with hypoglycemia and gradually morphs into diabetes. Since you are thin I would also think you might be LADA or slow onset Type 1 diabetes. Your doctors need to do GAD Antibodies and C Peptide tests. In the Netherlands are you able to change doctors, you might want to find one that listens to you. Both Type 2 and Type 1 diabetes are about the pancreas. In type 1 your immune system attcks your pancreas killing off beta cells. In type 2 it usually starts with insulin resistance and gradually from over production of insulin our beta cells begin to die. So in the end both types kill off beta cells needed to process glucose.
