give their left arm for a blood sugar of 180:eek:.

There are the rare cases where the person can not tolerate insulin and can not control their blood sugar.

Never mind the fact that insurance companies want diabetics on their policies like a gun to their head, it is those who refuse to control their blood sugar who make it so tough for those of us who do.

I have a friend in Boston who is allergic to insulins. She had to be desensitized to a particular insulin (Humalog) and she uses a pump. It took many years for her to get to the point where she can use that insulin. She developed some bad complications that will never completely go away. Even now she is slowly going blind and she she has flare ups of her insulin allergy. So many highs in the 300's and 400's before she gets her control back again.

Despite all this she has given birth to two wonderful daughters who are perfectly healthy. She is happy and has a wonderful sense of humor. She is one very brave lady!!!
