My name is Charles. I was first diagnoised with type2 diabetes in 1990 and was shocked. Doctor explained a lot of information to me and I was not really hearing, because there was so much being given to me in a shocken state of mind. What I did hear loud and clear was some of the damage that could be done if not controlled. At that time I chose to control my blood sugar with diet and exercise. I did quite well and after awhile my control went out of whack. I stopped exercising and started to eat as I always had in the past. During my next Dr visit I was put on oral medication. With the meds, diet and exercise; I got back in control of my blood sugar and hasn't had any problems controlling it since. I am presently taking metformin and glipizide twice a day and am very careful of how I eat (ice cream is my biggest weakness). I am at 200 lbs and 6 foot tall. Presently I am making myself smoothies and that is a meal for me and at times I use ice cream with RAW vegetables and fruits. I check blood sugar 3 X a day; staying from 89 to 130.

Thanks for the update, Charles . . . much better! ;)

I was diagnosed about a year ago, and just in the last couple of months I've discovered Breyer's CarbSmart frozen treats. If you haven't already tried them, go shopping. My guess is you won't be able to tell the difference in their ice cream, at least not in your smoothies. Their CarbSmart fudge bars are awesome! (awesome like - it's hard not to eat the whole boxful at once - awesome! :D)

Welcome Charles! You have done really well with your diabetes. I wish I had the taste buds for fruits and veggies, but it just is not happening.
I understand the weakness for ice cream, I still have an occasional serving of ice cream. I had a love affair with orange sherbert but that stopped a long time ago. Come and visit often!
