Just been diagnosed with diabetes

I am 37 and have been to the hospital for a series of tests. One of these was a glucose tolerance test. My insulin levels went ballistic as did my blood sugar.
Welcome to the world of diabetes. My father had diabetes and recently died from his third stroke. He was the one who convinced me to get tested - bless him.
So here I am, shocked but not depressed. One thing I still don't get is the link between being 'sugar sick' as it is called in this part of the world and still having to eat it. I will post that somewhere else.
