I have chronic kidney stones. Sometimes I manage to go an entire month without one, but usually not. I had never had one until i got extremely dehydrated a couple of years ago and got the first one, after that they are a very common thing. I try to stay ahead of them by drinking mass quantities of water (about a gallon a day) and staying away from dark colored drinks. It helps a little. For some strange reason if I sit in a hard chair for more than an hour or so I can can always feel one getting cranked up. So far only ended up in the ER once, and that was because I couldn't quit vomiting because of the pain. Urologist just said to stay hydrated and stay away from dark colored drinks. I also take cranberry pills, not really sure if it helps, but they are cheap and it can't hurt to try.
I also take cranberry pills. I googled cranberry supplements and they can cause oxalate stones. Knock on wood, I hope I never have to feel that pain!
