LONG TERm pump user

I've been a type 1 diabetic for 55 years.

I started using a pump (AutoSyringe AS*6) almost 36 years ago. My first pump had ONE preset basal rate which the user "set" to his personal SINGLE basal rate by diluting the insulin with a diluent (which had to be same one used by Lilly to dilute the insulin the vial).

This led to numbers of interesting mathematical calculations (how many "clicks" is a unit of insulin, a correction factor, etc). We also had little to work with other than our relatively first and second generation home blood glucose testers (anyone remember using the water bottle after 60 seconds to get blood off of test strip)?

I began using a CGM 20 years ago.

I'm not claiming to be an expert on everything but I've got a lot of both personal and group experience with pump sand cgms if anyone needs help please let me know!

Good to have you here with your experience. We often get questions about pumping, and about managing T1 in general, and it's always a help for someone with personal experience to give some guidance.

Sounds like pumps have gone through a lot of changes over the years.

Wow, I am glad that I get to deal with more flexible tech! I love being able to set a temp basal rate before playing tennis, or have my pump do all the math for me. Can't wait for my t:slim to start talking to my dexcom later this year!
