hello everyone.i was diagnosed at age 10.i think i had diabetes symptoms for years before diagnosis?its been a fight thats for sure, and i havent won yet.ha.there is no one in immediate family with diabetes, but i found out later on that my mothers father was a native american.and died young skinny and alcoholic.i think perhaps a defective gene was passed?as i am told i look just like him.makes me wonder?i drank lots of milk,in the late 60s to early 70s also.i could speculate all day...i have it and i put on the gloves and fought back.so far just some arm and hand pain.i abused my self lifting weights and boxing, and being a mechanic for 20 years would probably do damage to a healthy person.but i am relaxed happy and my a1cs for 2008 were 5.5- 5.6- 5.4- 6.5.........i take lantus and humalog i take 6 shots or more daily.and check glucose 6 times.i ride my bicycle up to 20 kms per day.eat very fresh foods and no milk or meat.unless its from a organic farm.ok thats enough for now, hope to converse here looking forward to it!have a great day.

Hello Mark, welcome to our community! It seems you have very good control and you seem to know how to handle your diabetes in a very good way. Is there anything we can offer you? Any questions?

I have had Type 1 for 63 years and I am very healthy. Eating 130g of carbs per day and walking about 3 miles per day is helping me a lot. I have been pumping insulin for 18 months and that has really helped me to eliminate most of the highs and lows that I used to have.

Good luck to you and welcome aboard!

hello richard,i linked to this site, reading a few chapters in your book.i dont remember what i was looking for.ow ya a insulin pump for a friend.im pretty self doctoring after figuring out they[drs] really dont know how to keep good glucose, unless they have type1.and a few paragraphs in a journal really cant stabalize sugars in a individual, everyone is different.so how can a general 2nd party diet and insulin under controlled circumstances on 1 individual, set the bar for millions of people?the tests are usually 3 to 15 years old.i have talked to specialists and thats what they go by.so self doctoring works for me.in no way am i saying there is not great doctors,i have one.and listen to him,but self dr - monitor my self.but i do not suggest anyone doing what i do.it works for me.i guess you get the hang of things, when you think 24 hrs a day 7 days a week for 35 years of diabetes!a specialist in glucose monitoring.ha.good reading your book by the way.i will continue.nice to meet you.
