Hi I've posted here a few times and got great support as have on going problems with my levels, so it's more of a question really, I've been offered Medtronic 780g pump but on waiting list as in uk, I would like to try Omnipod dash but the area we are in nhs funding doesn't seem to favor them i think its due to funding, and if I have Medtronic 780g i will have to pay for guardian 4 sensors if i wanted closed loop as they are not funded. I have read up on Omnipod Dash and that looks really good as no tubing and seems to be easier to use, I could use that with libre2 which I already have. I sent for and recieved sample pod to look at, with information, also very soon Omnipod 5 is to be released
in uk, and that's closed loop as is Medtronic 780g so what are your views on these ?

I'd love for our other CGM/insulin pump users to post in this thread.

I did look up Omnipod because that was a new brand to me. It does seem well-regarded.

I guess the big differences I see are that
  • The 5 is closed loop, like the 780g; the DASH is not. If neither the 5 nor the 780g are available to you (or covered by your medical plan) yet then there's the issue of waiting for their approval (not a sure thing) and what it would cost you out of pocket to use one of them (a cost which could vary).
  • I like the Omnipod model because I have this weird mental thing about the texture of plastics against my skin (IVs, the electrical cord of the hair trimmer, etc.). That's my deal and it would tilt me toward the Omnipod though if I was told the preference would cost me several hundred dollars every month I'd have to think about it. I realize that not so many people have this issue, but it's the kind of personal preference I think you'd have to consider in any wearable device.
  • The DASH and the 5 just work differently. Kind of the difference between a sedan/saloon and an SUV. One does it all, which is a plus, though you pay for that monetarily and maybe in the complexity of the system. If you have a CGM that works decently well now, I would be inclined to wait until you found out if the 5 or 780g were covered (or how much they're covered) before I went for one or the other.

Hi thanks for your reply you always answer when I ask anything thank you again, there is no personal funding only private, only option is pay for everything or see what nhs will fund. They fund medtronic 780g but not sensors to go with it to make closed loop, they fund omnipod dash in some cases I have got libre 2 I can use with it, but as you say medtronic 780g can be closed loop, omnipod dash is not, but after speaking to omnipod representative and having sample sent no insulin for it but to try and see if I like wearing it as I tried and do, the thing is if I was to get omnipod dash ( not that hopeful) I would automatically be upgraded to omnipod 5 when available but not sure about sensors to make it closed loop, so if I accept medtronic 780g and pay for sensors I would be in contract for 4 years, but if I could get omnipod dash I would be auto upgraded to 5 , but maybe pay for sensors . Like you say omnipod would be forward to get omnipod 5 which will be available around August time. Omnipod is more more expensive, so unless I win lottery I'm not sure I will get it, as I could not pay for all privately . But the Omnipod 5 is available now in America.

It's interesting that you'd be upgraded to the Omnipod 5 from the DASH. While the 5 can do what the DASH does -- and then some -- it's almost like buying a washing machine and having to line-dry your clothes but being told if you buy this washing machine (the DASH) in a few months they'll give you a new washing machine and a dryer later for the same price. Maybe I'm missing something here.

In my opinion there's kind of no losing this bet. Both systems (5 and 780g) seem more comprehensive than a Libre. The question is how much would have to come out of your pocket. That might be what makes the decision.
