This one is for the ladies :)

I was wondering if menopause could somehow affect blood glucose. See post : http://www.diabetesforum.com/diabetes-forum-lounge/2128-what-your-fasting-blood-sugar-morning-631.html#post51421

Anyone having those wonderful delightful hot flashes and tested? :mad2:

Sore subject! I have hot flashes all day long, and yes, I'm too old (60) to be in perimenopause, but at least I'm finally here. I used to say my ashes would be bleeding. I'll try to pay better attention to what's going on (or not!) when I test.

Now, the trick is to find a time to test when I'm not busy running around looking for a freezer locker. :)

I was dx'd when I was post menopausal, but still get those dreaded hot flashes. I now can identify when I have a hormone surge, because of those hot feelings. Now I am not sure they are from liver dumps or hormones gone wild.
I don't know if it's menopause or high blood sugar that gave me the dragon mood... but now that my sugars are doing great I'll be able to tell for sure

Well thank you very much ladies for your feedback!

Don't you hate it when you go from normal heat to volcano heat in 2 minutes flat?

I wonder if test strips work below freezing point?

I don't have another explanation for my high FBS this morning. I feel better blaming it on menopause anyway

I am not in menopause yet just turned 40 but I have noticed lately that i get flush and what I think are little hot flashes and yes, my bs is a little higher at those times. I have been VERY sick with my cycles. Dr. is thinking it might be PMDD. UGHHH!!

This may not apply per say, but I had a hysterectomy in July of 2005. By 2006, I was thinking that I was becoming diabetic. I also lost insurance around that time and we didn't have a community care clinic to go to until about 2 weeks before I got sick in 2009 and was diagnosed in the ER. Who knows?
I had a hysterectomy in July of 2005, by October of 2006 I was showing symptoms of early pre-diabetes. Didn't have insurance at the time so handled it with diet/exercise until I got sick in October of 2009 and passed out at work. Woke up in ER with IV and insulin going in. They also had to put potassium in, and that was no fun! It hurt, almost broke my daughters hand a couple of times.
I was waiting for a hot flash... and it came!!!! No I'm not crazy. I was simply very curious about how BG behaved during or right after a hot flash. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to test during. Hard to test when you go from normal heat to volcano heat in 60 seconds flat. :target:

Tested 9.8 (176) right after the hot flash was over. Interesting! Before that, maybe an hour before, I was 5.7 (102). I didn't eat or drink anything before that (stupid) hot flash. I went down to 6 (108) one hour later.

I must catch a night time hot flash now...

Wish me luck! :)
