My husband isn't on any meds. He flat out refuses to exercise. He has lost about 40 pounds in 6 months by eating LCHF, but there is no way he will exercise. His first A1c was 7.0, his last was 5.9, which is great. I have been cooking a wide variety of good-tasting dishes and making low-carb desserts to make it easier for him to stick to the diet, and it has gone well until the last few days. All at once he seems to be angry that he can't eat some of the things he ate before D, and I can understand that. But this evening we went out to eat. He had eggs and sausage, but he ate a few bites of hash browns and half a biscuit. His 1 hour post-meal bg was 143. I know that isn't disastrous, but I have been trying to keep him under 140 at all times. He says no matter what, he is going to eat a little potatoes, gravy, biscuit or toast sometimes. He eats out at least 3 times a week, so I know he plans to eat extra carbs every time he eats out.
The question I have isn't one I can find an answer to on the web, but I know many of you take Metformin, so you would know the answer. I know Metformin can reduce insulin resistance, but when you take it, are you able to eat at least a few more carbs than if you weren't taking it? If he could just eat a few more carbs without having his bgs hit 140, I think he would keep the carbs down to a dull roar. Otherwise I'm afraid he will give up altogether.
