Hello mama2b, welcome aboard, with bb on board! 
There are many people misdiagnosed and then the correct type is discovered much later, some times years later. Type 2's are diagnosed as type 1, and type 1's are diagnosed as type 2's. These mistakes are usually made by GPs. An endocrinologist should always be consulted at the time of diagnosis and when the initial treatment is prescribed.
I have been type 1 for 65 years and I am doing very well. No complaints! Good luck to you and your baby 2b!
