Make sure that she has an endocrinologist to help her.
Go to at least one of her appointments with her endo., so you know what to do for her.
Help her with her diet for diabetes. Make sure that she checks her BG (blood glucose) as often as her endo wants her to.

In short, if you feel that she can't control it (make sure that she can't first), you listen to what the endo tells her, so you can follow what the endo wants her to do.

As previously advised, go to the doctor with her.

Remember diabetes is often dealt with in three ways - diet, exercise, and medications.

Make sure both you and your mother receive education for your doctor or nurse. Don't be afraid to ask questions of them. Ask and ask until you understand fully.

A new diagnosis can be overwhelming. Learn all you can by asking questions.

My step-father was able get off insulin my exercising and changing his diet within 3 months of being diagnosed. It is possible but she needs to be willing to make changes. Lifestyle changes are hard but they truly make a difference!

Be a rock for her. You are important for her emotionally. You should be telling her every day how much you love her, how much you care about her and how much she means to you. The first pillar of strength against diabetes is knowing you're not alone.
