I am sixteen years old and have a history of diabetes in the family. I wake up many mornings extremely early with a terrible feeling. It feels like my blood is boiling and running through my veins very hot. I also feel very nauseous but never actually vomit. The feeling lasts for about an hour than goes away. Some one on another website said this could be an early sign of diabetes. Did any one else notice this as an early sympotm? plaease help!

Did you ever get an answer to this question from your doctor, because I am having the same exact symptoms. I have anxiety attacks and have attributed this to anxiety.

I cannot say whether this is a symptom of diabetes. I have never experienced this. In the early morning most diabetics experience a rise in their blood sugar. It is called "Dawn Phenomenon". A person who does not have diabetes would not have this problem. The pancreas would provide enough insulin to keep the blood sugar level normal. In the case of a diabetic there is no insulin provided by the pancreas (type 1 diabetes) or else the insulin is there but does not function properly (type 2 diabetes). The diabetics thus experience very high blood sugar and it is possible that nausea could be a side effect. A diabetiic can use insulin or types of medication to keep from having very high blood sugar throughout the day and also compensate for Dawn Phenomenon.

I suggest you buy a glucose meter and test your blood sugar when you have this nausea. Walmart sells the Relion Ultima meter fot about $9 and a vial of 50 test strips for about $21. This way you can tell whether it is high blood sugar or something else causing your nausea. Good luck to both of you!

When I was diagnosed 24 or 25 years ago now, I didn't have any symptoms. It was during a routine physical exam. The nurse said "oh, your a diabetic", I said no I'm not, and she said "yes you are". So go and get checked by an endocrinologist, they specialize in diabetes, especially since there's a history of diabetes in your family, because it can be hereditary.

Oh, and B-T-W, Hello, and welcome to the board. Feel free to ask anything here too.

Hello! This may sound strange, but have you tested your ph? It sounds exactly how I felt when my ph was really, really acidic. You can buy ph test strips for pretty inexpensive (like $10 for a year's worth). You want to be between 6.4 and 7.2 ph. Anything lower is too acidic, and anything higher means you are probably so acidic that your kidneys are producing ammonia to offset the acid! If you find you're highly acidic, you'll want to start eating some alkaline forming foods to balance out your ph. It's amazing how much better you feel! Alkaline foods are fruits and vegetables (preferably organic, so you avoid synthetic chemicals from pesticides). Good luck! :)

My waking blood sugar is often higher than I would expect. We are watching that.

I wake up raging with hunger. Like if I do not eat, I feel like I am going to die.

My question is for testing acidic amounts do I need a whole new meter? I don't believe my current one is set up for it.

Try adding a simple fruit to your breakfast. What do you eat for breakfast?
