Y recently diagnosed daughter (4 months ago), she is five, has complained lately her "heart hurts". Has anyone experienced this? We thought it might be gas but she never specifically mentioned her heart. Can these be diabetic complications already??? Any help would be appreciated as we are sooo new to this disease and still learning.

I wonder how accurate a kid of her age can be as far as where she huts. You said - "she is five, has complained lately her "heart hurts"." Sometimes in a youngster this means she is sad.

You don't mention if there are other symptoms or control issues. A small child dx'd 4 months ago is not likely to be experiencing complications. I would take my kiddo to the doc to find out exactly what is going on.

I think it is always important to check with a doctor to make sure it is not something serious. It could be a million things.

I would ask her if she means her body, or her feelings! A lot of early childhood teachers use this term to mean they are SAD. I got kinda sick of hearing it, in fact ... she might mean she is sad over diabetes, or maybe something else altogether.

Thanks for the advice. We are checking with her pulmonologist and endocronologist. As far as being sad, she is talking about pain. She is highly intelligent and can express herself at a hIgh level luckily for us.

Costochondritis can cause "hurting heart" in kids. It is an issues with the soft tissues between ribs and totally benign. But call your pediatrician today and get checked. No reason for an ED yet. Scott
