Hello there, welcome to our community! I hope your Mom was diagnosed by an endocrinologist (diabetes expert). Other doctors sometimes misdiagnose. I think your Mom should see a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) and an RD (Registered Dietitian). These individuals are usually found at your local hospitals, perhaps in the Diabetes Education Center. Is your Mom Type 1 or Type 2? It may be too early to say. Let us know more and it will make it easier to give more advice. For the time being your Mom should eat meals with very few carbohydrates (carbs). Carbs raise her blood sugar level. Stay away from breads, potatoes, and anything containing sugar until she sees the CDE and RD. Exercise will help lower the blood sugar. Have her get lots of exercise everyday if she is capable of doing that. If her blood sugar stays over 300 consistently I recommend she be taken to the ER if she cannot schedule another appointment with her doctor in the immediate future. Keep us updated. Good luck!
