Hello everyone!

Almost 2 weeks ago I went to my doctor for check-up. I ate my dinner at almost 01:00 and they took fasting test around 09:00 (almost 8 hours difference ) and the glucose level was 7.0. During this test, I also fainted. Four days after I went there again for a new test. I ate my dinner this time around 20:00 and they took the fasting blood sample at 08:40 (12 hours and 40 minutes). The level was 4.9 and I ate sugar with some water. After 2 hours the level was 6.0. Because of this 7.0, they want me to do a new test, almost 1 week later.

I am 180cm and 75 kg by the way. My cholestorel level is 5.2.

I look at the symptoms on internet and I do not have most of the symptoms. maybe some of them such as blurred vision but my vision is actually : some lines like snakes, colorfullness, i can move them if i want, some points like galaxies. Is this what you call "blurred vision"?

I usually eat 2 good means per day because of this i have lost almost 3 kg in 1 year, is this a sign of "losing weight" symptom?

I think my mouth is smelling especially when I am hungry, like when i wake up in the mornings. Can a dentist understand if my smell is due to diabetes or not?

Thanks for your answers. I wish you all wonderful days!

Hi celal and Welcome!

7mmol/l is at the high end of the normal range so as a Fasting Blood Glucose (BG) is worth following up in my opinion (I'm not a Doctor).

I'd suggest additional tests that may be more useful at this stage than just another Fasting BG:

* The A1c effectively shows your average (mean) BG over the last 3 months or so

* Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) would show how well your BG management system responds to a Glucose challenge

Recent weight loss may be a symptom of Diabetes.

A fruity smell on your breath may be due to ketones that can result quite normally from eating very little, or from eating very few carbohydrates. This "ketosis" can also be caused by low insulin levels... if your Doctor is thorough they may also test your C-Peptide and insulin levels.

Welcome to Diabetes Forum, celal! It sounds to me like your doctors are on top of this, in continuing to take more tests to narrow down a diagnosis. The symptoms you describe could be diabetes, and I'm sure your docs will come to a conclusion soon. Let us know what they decide, and ask all the questions you want - we're here to help as much as we can.

Thank you for joining us!

Hello and welcome to the forum! Sounds like your doctor wants to be on the safe side and do another test, although a 7.0 reading is high enough to be considered a diabetic. Let us know how your next test goes and thanks for joining!

Hello everyone again, especially Frank,Shanny, Breezeonby,

I want to let you know the new results. Since that day I have been at different doctors and had new oral glucose tolerance tests and HbA1C, uric acid, urine .

Until now i have had 3 OGTTs :1) 0 hour: 5.0 , 2. hour: 6.0, 2) 0 hour: 4.9, 2. hour: 3.7 and last week 3) 0. hour: 100 mg/dL, 2.hour:90mg/dL.

My HB1ac: 5.42% , uric acid: 3.60 mg/dL. Until now all my urine tests were fine. According to all these tests 4-5 doctors who i have seen, said i dont have diabetes, yet. I thank God for this. I really wish you healthy and happy days and nights!

That rang bells with me - sounds like a migraine aura, which I have occasionally. They don't last long - a few minutes for me.
