If she is tech savvy I would recommend you to encourage her to join. (I know it's difficult - my mom had 10 thumbs when it comes to using the laptop)

Welcome to DF. It is good that you care but encourage your mom to join . Another good site for diabetics is Blood Sugar 101 This site should answer a lot of her basic questions. Diabetes is a chronic disease that has to be managed every day to get the best results. In the beginning they usually advise diet and exercise. But for many of us we also need medication also. They usually will start with metformin that may cause stomach distress in the beginning. How old is your mom? If she is eating a lot of carbs per meal, have her cut back until her bgs are in the 120-140 range, 2 hours after meals. Doing this is the best thing she could do to manage her diabetes.
