Hi ruth, how are you?
i agree with you we need to help each other exchanging tips etc.,well i recommend to you the one i used and i find it so effective with me and i got it in manila philippines the name is AMPALAYA PLUS.
at the moment i am able to have a normal BG reading in an 8 hr diet and i am eating normal food but still cautious and i do stretching and walking excercise 3x a week and currently on a water theraphy 1.2 liter of water early in the morning, believe me i eat my muffin and banana cake everytime i want to but in moderation, 6 months ago i thought im in hell imagine you have to watch all the time on your food and the taste of brown rice is not as good as white rice but you know if you sacrifice for a while to get it better im sure it paid off it's worth all your effort but you have to do honestly and religiously.

Hi 888pongsky,

I am fine, it sounds like you are. Thank you for the tip of the AMPALAYA PLUS. You got it from Manila in the Philippines. Is it sold it the USA? If so, is it under another brand name?

I love brown rice. That is it's natural color, the same with wheat bread and grains. They bleach it to make it white.

Keeping your mom on your diet and exercise program will help her visual condition. Could she have cataracts that are affecting her vision?

Heheh . . . funny you should mention this . . . I used to have a love/hate relationship with brown rice. I tried to get used to it but it just seemed so dry. I knew it was better for us, but I just couldn't get it right.

Finally realized I wasn't cooking it long enough. We got so we loved it, and then what? I got got diabetes & now it spikes me. I miss my brown rice!

Actually Ruth, rice & wheat may or may not be bleached - but removing the bran is how they make them "white" - both rice and wheat. All the fiber has been removed, and that leaves just the carbs. :( :( :(

Hi Shanny, I am quoting from your article. If I am wrong correct me, please. I found out who the Intuit's of Nanvuk are: http://www.mce.k12tn.net/indians/reports3/inuit2.htm

They are also known as Eskimos in the Artic Circle. That is why they are on a different diet than we are.

The article is by Dewailly regarding the diet and cardiovascular disease in the Inuit of Nunvuk. I noticed at first that it was talking about a special diet, the tradiitional Inuit diet that; consists primarily of protein and fat, somewhat similar to the low-carbohydrate diets.

These diets have caused concern among nutritionists because of the health risks associatiated with limited carbohydrate consumption.

One recommened dietary carbohydrate intake for adults is 150 g/d. Ketosis can be prevented by a daily intake of about 50 g.

This satifies the glucose need of the CNS and during starvation. For this reason a safety margin of 50 g/d is arbitarily added to the value of 100 g/d and the practical minimal CHO intake set at 150 g/d.

Shanny, we are not arguing. We are discussing different diets.

hi

Am new to this forum and have been looking at the various sections, so much great information I have found already - came home with meds and told to stick to low carb diet per dr but not a clue as to what I am aiming for carb-wise. Have to wait 7 weeks to see dietician but this site is sure going to be a huge help. Sorry if I am not posting my "hallo" in he right place.
