Hello,

I was just diagnosed with Diabetes (They are not sure if it is gestational or type 2.) I am also pregnant 7 -10 weeks. I am concerned that my primary doctor kinda handed me off to the OBGYN and said they would manage my diabetes care. Should I be getting an endocrinologist as well? I have so many questions, and I feel like no one is giving me any answers.

Thanks,

I know with Gestational Diabetes their bg ranges are much tighter than regular diabetics. As long as your OB has experience with Gestational diabetes I would think it should be OK. Many are put on insulin quite early to keep bgs in a normal range.

Your obstetrician takes care of it until your baby's birth after which you'll be going back to your family physician. You'll also be under the charge of a nutritionist and a diabetes nurse instructor. who'll help you monitor what you need to do on a constant basis. That's what happened to me.
