Hi my name is Mariah and i'm 23.....i've been a diabetic since i was 10....about 4 years ago i switched to the pump and i love it. I love to work out and my health is very important to me. I recently have been having a rough time as i can't get insurance and i can't afford to get test strips to check my blood. It's all i can do just to afford the insulin. I excersize alot to help keep my sugars down (which i know is no replacement for testing) and i always eat healthy....would love to hear everyones ideas and suggestions! Looking forward to talking to you all!:D

Hello Princess, we can help. Just ask all the questions you want. i am curious about your getting a pump. A pump and supplies are very expensive. Did you have insurance at the time you got your pump? The pump supplies are more expensive than the insulin.

You can but a Relion meter at Walmart for $9 and a box of 100 strips for $40. That is much cheaper than using the name brand meters.

I am guessing you are type 1, although there are many type 2 diabetics who use insulin and pumps.

Hello Princess . . . all I can do is send prayers/positive thoughts for you to find the help you need. I don't use insulin yet, so I don't know sic 'em about this, but I remember our other mod, breezeonby, has posted links several times for people needing assistance. I'll start searching for those, and if any other member knows where they are or has other info, please post.

You are in California, right? I think there are good programs out there - you've prob'ly already applied to Medi-Cal.

I have seen other people online saying they started using insulin theu bought at Walmart. Apparently much cheaper. It may have a different label amnd name, but will still do the same job as the insulin you are using now. The pharmscist could help you with that.
