Hi. I've been a member since October, but just made my first post. I am a 61-year-old grandma who was diagnosed with Type II about 10 years ago. I am unable to tolerate Metformin, so I take Lantus twice a day and Humalog to cover meals. I have started (again) to work on a healthier lifestyle as I know I really need to lose weight and look at food in a more healthy way. I hope to find some encouragement and help through this forum, and I hope that I can help others, too.

Good to meet you, Bea . . . glad you decided to emerge from "lurkdom"! :D

Tell us more about yourself & how you manage . . . I'm on metformin but no insulin yet. My way of eating is low-carb/high-fat; my lipids panel is excellent (see my signature) and I've lost 35 lbs since diagnosis.

Welcome aboard & I hope to see you often!

Hello and welcome to the forum. I think you will soon learn that there is a wealth of information and plenty of support here. I hope that you have time to visit often. Take care.

welcome Bizzybea.... I have T2 diabetes too and like you I couldn't tolerate Metformin. I've had condition for 12 years now. It's all a learning process no matter what stage you're at really. I'm new here too... but I think I've been hooked on reading stuff and contributing..lol. I find everyone here to be good at sharing their experience and knowledge of what they've learnt to date which is great. Also it's a great place to get that moral support as I'm sure many of us don't know that many diabetics (if any) and may not have people around us who understand what we're experiencing.
Welcome. We are glad you are here! I hope you come back and post often.
nice to meet you!
Welcome to DF. We are about the same age, I just turned 60. I have to admit that I am so much healthier now , after my dx 4 years ago. I now know I can't eat like a non D and I have to incorperate exercise into my daily routine. When my HbA1c was much higher I thought that was just the way it had to be. Finding others who showed me how to low carb successfully was so important to my lowering my bgs. Now most days I am just a touch above normal. My fasting are still the highest bg of my day, but through proper eating strategies I don't spike at meals so I can keep bgs in a 70-115 range most of the day. It did not happen overnight, but it did happen.
Thanks!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I look forward to participating on this forum. I know that even after 10 years of living with diabetes there are still lots of things for me to learn!:) And it really feels good to have some new friends who understand!
