Hi,
I'm a 37 year old 5' 11'' 165 lb male. I am in very good health. I went for a routine physical 3 weeks ago and discovered I have diabetes. My BG was averaging in the 200-300 range (confirmed with two blood tests). No insulin antibodies present. My Ac1 came back 8.1. My doctor diagnosed me with classic Type 2 and put me on 500mg of Metformin twice a day. As a footnote...I am a healthy eater...well I WAS a healthy eater for a NON-diabetic.
Once I got the diagnosis I radically changed my diet so as to be eating the best food possible. I cut my BC by 120 points. The doctor explained to me that this is because I started taking the metformin.
I have been away on a long planned vacation and while away my doctors partner called me and said my last blood test came in (we were waiting on the insulin test). She informed me that my insulin test came back negative. I am not producing any insulin. She told me to keep taking the metformin and they would see me at my scheduled appointment in March. I only have three weeks of diabetes education but this sounds completely wrong to me. Any thoughts?
