This is so not about diabetes, but I think it addresses one of the most exasperating practices found in this country, if not everywhere else as well. Computerized campaign calls . . . robo-calls. Since the US general election is coming up in four more days, you can bet our phones are ringing off the hooks. But there is hope . . . :D :D :D

We bought a new landline phone this week. It was a nice model - two handsets - but economical, as is our wont, and at first I was chagrined to realize that the economy came at the expense of an answering program incorporated with it. But since the answering machine on the old phone still works well, we'll leave it plugged in somewhere too, just for that purpose.

But I digress. The new phone has call blocking capabilities! Why am I always the last to learn these things?! So three days ago I began blocking every number associated with a robo-call from any political campaigns - people, propositions, anything. And today it began to work. The handset at my elbow began to blink an incoming call. The unit rang ONE single solitary time, and then the handset began blinking "call blocked"!!! Hallelujah!!! I think I haven't been this happy since well . . . since I can't even remember! heheh!

That's part of the reason why we just have our cell phones. I am so tired of the stupid ads....hubby made the comment last night that he missed dish just because of that fact

That's definitely the cure for it . . . dumping the landline. Unless your only high-speed internet option is DSL, like us . . . :( and it isn't even that high-speed cuz we're too far away from the nearest sub-station/transformer/whatever-the-heck-it-is that boosts the signal.

We have to keep our landline too.. for the DSL. And I like the phone hooked up for emergencies, etc. but we turned the ringer off and use only our cell phones for incoming calls. Hubby works nights, sleeps days and the phone was making him crazy.

Actually to have DSL you don't have to have a landline. We learned that in Maine when we switched our landline to tmobiles at home service..like vonage... They call it a dry link or something like that

I am thinking of getting the deal where your ISP takes over the landline and just purely just use it for DSL. If you were to call me will be the mobile phone! :D The VOIP is a phone for the DSL (Voice over Internet Protocol) and they're not cheap as seems to be the flavor of the month so to speak. As for faster net I will get good results as I am quite close to the exchange.
