Pneumonia Again

Well, it has hit me again. I had a really bad night last night and my pulse oximeter keep staying below 73 on 5 liters of oxygen. I felt chilled and I was running a fever of 101.4 most of the night. By the time I woke up this morning, I was so weak, I could barely make it out of bed. I already had a doctor appointment to discuss my blood test results. My doctor immediately sent me to their diagnostic center for a chest xray, and sure enough I have pneumonia AGAIN, my doctor heard crackles in my lower right lung. I am getting sick and tired of this. My doctor wanted to know if I wanted to go to the hospital and I said "NO". If my pulse ox falls below 70, I have been instructed to go to the emergency room. I wish I knew why this keeps happening to me. I also have anemia and I am on iron supplements. The only good news is that my A1C is 5.2%. That is a good A1C for me because I had been on prednisone and had pneumonia twice in the last 2 months. This is my 3rd time to have pneumonia in the last 2 months. I am very down in the dumps.

Breeze . . . somebody has GOT to get to the bottom of this! Whatever the heck this bug is that will not be subdued, you can't keep going on like this. It scares me. ((((Breeze))))
So sorry you have pneumonia again! Have you seen a pulmonologist or an immunologist? Maybe one of that kind of doctor could evaluate why you keep getting pneumonia.

When my husband was a younger man he would get pneumonia very easily. An old time doctor asked him what his activities had been prior to becoming sick. When the Doc found out my husband had been helping his father make hay on the farm, he strongly suggested that my husband either stop making hay or wear a respirator while he was around the dust in the hay mow.

I know you probably aren't in that situation but maybe there is some other irritant that aggravates your lungs. Stay strong....best wishes for some answers to help you.

All I can think of is that maybe that there is a virus involved.

Hey, Breeze -- what is your Vitamin D status? That can make you immunocompromised.

It also could be some sort of resistant bacteria that flares up, at times.

I am so sorry this is happening to you -- it sounds terribly frustrating!
Have they not given you a pneumonia vacine. They help keep you from getting it .
So sorry ((Breeze)) I hope you are up and around faster this time :( Let us know if you need anything.

That is amazing. I've never had mine that low. At least it doesn't seem to be from high bg.

I grew up on a farm and had something similar happen. I was told I had asthma. It would get really difficult to breathe. One night I woke up and sat up just because it was easier to breathe sitting up.

It was obvious grain dust made it worse. After dad started knocking it off his clothes before coming into the house, that was a big help. Then avoiding grain and hay it just about disappeared.

I had a similar experience just a couple years ago. It turned out to be mold in the house. So definitely think or check if there is anything around that could be contributing.

I also had a blood pressure medication that interfered with my breathing. That one did more harm than good and the first time I caught a cold on it I wound up with permanent lung damage.

Sorry to hear this news. i hope you are feeling at least a little better today
