Hi,
I have a type 1 diabetic daughter and am considering pump therapy for her due to her eratic BGL's.

Does anyone know if there is a combo device available that checks BGL's and is an insulin pump, if so where can I get more info AND if this device isn't available how many people would find it useful; with enough interest maybe someone like animas could develop one.

Regards
Anna:)

Anna, onlymep has given you some good links and has shown you the only existing device that combines an insulin pump and glucose monitoring. Animas is in the process of combining with the Dexcom continuous monitoring system. It is scheduled to be available by the end of this year.

IMHO, the best thing you could do is get your daughter started on an insulin pump soon, regardless of what type of technology it uses. The only "downside" to utilizing Continuous Blood Glucose Monitoring (ie. a combo device) is that it requires two insertion sites, one cannulus for insulin delivery, and one cannulus for testing or "guestimating" blood sugar levels (the device continually tests the interstitial fluid which is not as accurate as testing a drop of blood). Everyone's situation is different and talking to a pump educator, if one is available in your area (or online), can be a big help in deciding what will work best for your daughter. :)
