I read that Zyprexa (olanzapine) is a medication used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, but I also read that it's used as an anti depressant as well. How is that?? And has anyone had any experience with it before?

My husband has taken Zyprexa for the last 10+ years. He tried to go off it once, with poor results. We monitor carefully & have adjusted his dosage once or twice during that time, but it has served him well. I think it isn't for everyday depression though . . . it was only after a psychotic break in 2000 that Zyprexa was added to his other antidepressant meds.

No personal experience, but I do correspond with a woman who participated in a trial and now controls her bi-polar disorder by keeping herself in ketosis and is now off all meds. She says it is very helpful and can immediately tell if she's out of ketosis.
