I realised I had type 1 when I was drinking lots and not eating. I would ALWAYS be thirsty. When I went to hospital I was in there for 6 days and on my first day my blood sugar level was 44.1 I am now using insulin to counter carbs :)

Thanks, Yes my levels are under control now, I take 4 units of protaphane from a insulin pen at night, 3 units in the morning. And I take Novarapid from an insulin for every meal, at the moment I count the carbs that are in the meal and then devide by 20 giving me the number of units I inject from the insulin pen
Welcome, Caimbeul, and thank you for joining us! You'll find a wealth of support, experience, knowledge & wisdom here, and I hope you'll feel comfortable and visit often.

I myself am a somewhat elderly type 2, and not on insulin yet, so I'll stay out of those discussions . . . :D But I'm really glad you're here - I think we can help you with many questions, and there are a jillion of those when you first get diagnosed.

take care & hurry back!
