Hi. I’m 79 years old and got diagnosed with type 2 nine years ago. The dr immediately put me on metroformin. I did research and became a vegan, and cut out all sugar. I took myself off the drug after a week or so. My A1C is consistently around 5.5 give or take a mg or two. I never go to the dr. As long as I don’t eat sugar I’m fine. I eat pasta, veggies, fruits and low calorie breads or tortillas. I don’t exercise much per se, but I live on a small ranch so I move around a lot and do heavy lifting.

Welcome back, spydurgurl!

I'm very curious about your approach to managing your diabetes. When you say you "don't eat sugar", do you not eat refined sugar (white, brown, etc.)? Because you eat pasta and fruit, which contain different forms of sugar, and apparently they work for you. What does a typical day's meals look like? And how have you managed your protein needs in light of staying vegan?
