I only ask because I don't have insurance, and I don't want to go unless you all think this sounds just like you.

Anyways, I'm 24 years old, and last year my husband said something about how I am just like his boss (who has diabetes ), and i brushed it off. Fast forward to the present. I am constantly battling athletes foot, I just found a patch of skin on my back that has gone numb, I get urinary tract infections more often then I assume is normal. I am already a pretty thin person, I had to have my teeth removed 2 years ago, (my teeth, despite brushing and flossing, rotted from the inside out, they couldn't save them) and i lost a lot of weight then, I was at 135, and I am at about 115 now. I assumed it was from the oral surgery, but it's still happening, and I eat regularly. I don't have the healthiest diet, I do drink a lot of cola and sweets, which is why I figured I can't be diabetic, cause all the sugar would have killed me by now, but I was told there is more then one kind of diabetes.

So anywho, I am getting a little scared, as I start to show more and more of the symptoms. I am not usually the person to go online and look this kind of thing up, so I am a little freaked out now.

Also, I have always had cold hands and feet, almost tingly. For as long as I can remember.

Does any of this come up as alarming or crucial? Any comments welcome. Thank you.

Hello there, welcome to our community! Those symptoms could very well be due to diabetes. You should stop the sugar foods and food high in carbohydrates. Go to a doctor and he will probably have appropriate blood tests done to see if it is diabetes or something else. An endocrinologist is a doctor who specializes in diabetes if there is one in your area.

Are you very thirsty and drink lots of liquid? Do you pass urine very frequently? If you have those symptoms in addition to the ones you mentioned then there is a strong chance you are diabetic. Ge help soon!! Good luck!

Get Treated!!!

Welcome OurBabyPeterson :), Welcome to our happy family and we can help you to get on with your life!!

Just by being thin is part of the lack of nutrients to your body and mussel mass is dissappering and the weight lost is a dead give a way to a type 1. Are you hungery, Thristy, Lazy & don't have any energy??

I would get checked out buy a doctor and if they think that you are then don't let the doctor treat you. Instead see that you see an Endocrinologist as these people know your problem. Don't think about your finances, GET TREATED!!! you have just the one life. I am sorry that I am pushy but please, Do this. ;):)

Welcome !!! I would say that it is time to go to a Dr. just to be checked out.. The longer you go without treatment the harder it is on your body. I was the same way -- I use to drink a 12 pack of Mt. Dew a day.. and eat at least 3 Take 5 candy bars a day... and when I was first diagnosed I thought " yeah right how can that be the case"... Well I can say that YES I am a Type I diabetic.. The symptoms that you are expressing are very carbon copy of mine.. There are plenty of programs to help offset the cost of testing and treatment if you are a diabetic. I would highly suggest that you get into your doctor and get tested. Best of luck to you and keep us updated..

I am constantly thirsty and peeing frequently. I went to the hospital, the doctor gave me a random blood glucose test and it turned out to be 96. He said I'm not a diabetic. Do I take his opinion or not. The thirst and urination has me worried. I tried to go to sleep at 8 and I urinated 5 times before 9p.m. before i was able to go to sleep. Does peeing a lot and drinking lots of water lower your blood sugar before that test? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Drinking lots of water and peeing a lot flushes much sugar out of your body. I think you should see an endocrinologist (diabetes specialist). A specialist would know that you could still be diabetic after you have described all your symptoms. He can have you take a glucose tolerance test that will determine if you are diabetic. That is the best thing for you to do now. Good luck!

The peeing a lot is the result of drinking a lot of water (duh). I've always drank a lot of water. My parents were concerned and so was the dr. After a lot tests the final determination was that was just thirsty a lot. I also like the taste of water and like to drink a lot of it. While I understand that it's a symptom of diabetes it's not proof of anything.

Yes, it does come up as alarming and Very crucial. There are different types of Diabetes. If you were an undiagnosed Type 1 Diabetic and continually consumed bars and soda, you would be dead in short order.

If you are an undiagnosed Type 2, then the junk that you are consuming, is killing you slowly. I definitely agree with most of the others. Please tell the medical Drs. of your symptoms and get tested.
Thank you!

If a Person is constantly thirsty for no other apparent reason and cannot quench his/her thirst with a couple glasses of water, then the Person should be concerned.

One random test is not sufficent. Two random tests on different days are necessary. An Oral Glucose Tolerance Test(OGTT) should also be done.

My fasting was 96, my a1c was 74 (don't know what that is). I was once again told I was not diabetic. I was given a post void bladder ultrasound. It turned out that my bladder wasn't emptying. Can you tell me if there's anything to worry about. How can my fasting be in the mid to high 90's, and what is an a1c.

Are you sure your A1c was 74? I think it must have been 7.4 which is not so bad if you are in the beginning stages of diabetes. An A1c is a blood test that determines your average blood sugar over the 2-3 month period prior to the time the blood sample was taken. A nondiabetic should have an A1c less than 6.0. If yours was 7.4 then it could indicate diabetes but you need more testing before a final diagnosis is made.

My fasting was 96, my a1c was 74. Straight 74, not 7.4. I know there is a conversion for 74, i just don't know how what the conversion is. Somebody else thought 7.4 as well. I really don't know what to make of it. The results of my ultrasound was a thickened bladder wall, and a post-void residual. Something about my bladder was not emptying as it should. I even had a cystoscopy to check my bladder.
