What Are the Side Effects of Oral Diabetes Medications?

Side effects of first- and second-generation sulfonylurea medicine include:

Hypoglycemia (low blood glucose)
Upset stomach
Skin rash or itching
Weight gain

Side effects for biguanide medications include:

Upset stomach (nausea, diarrhea)
Metallic taste in mouth

Side effects for thiazolidinediones are rare but may include:


Elevated liver enzymes
Liver failure

I am taking the follwing medicines. Glycomet SR 500 (2 per day morning ,evening),Ecosporin AV 150 (One per day in the morning ), Cardace 2.5 one in the night., and Glimy 2 mg One in the morning before breakfast.. Pl let me know the side effects of these medicines.

Madhu this is a very old thread.

I would suggest that you go to the Blood Sugar 101 website to read up on side effects of each medication you take for Diabetes -- or even GOOGLE the meds by name to get info.
