Does skipping a meal help glucose go down, even if it's just a bit? And what if you don't eat breakfast until late or just skip it and eat lunch at 12? I tried eating and not eating (skipping/delaying) and both times my BGL just stays the same or goes up. :(

The body will ONLY let your glucose go down a certain amount before it gets your liver to secrete more glucose into your bloodstream.

This is what we technically refer to as a "liver dump".

This is why it's not a good idea to skip meals or be late with them. If you liver dump before a meal, then eat any carb in that meal (even small amounts like 10 or 15g) you'll find your post-prandial readings are MUCH higher than they need be, because you started eating at a higher reading, then went up from there...

I think it depends if you are on insulin or not. I know many diabetics on Insulin who can skip meals and just let their long acting insulin work. I am only on metformin and if I skip a meal, especially breakfast my liver converts stored glycogen into glucose and dumps a lot into my system. Since I eat low carb and rarely spike more than 20 points at meals, a liver dump will usually make me spike 30-50 points. Your body will not let you go too low, it is a kind of survival response.

well I'm on insulin and I notice that if I don't eat within 5 hours I either crash or my liver dumps. I try and eat something every 4 hours on average just so I don't get the crash or liver dumping. Plus I'm out a lot of the time and I don't like to risk it, especially when I'm around others, or driving about.
Night time is a different story as I sometimes crash and have the liver dump occur, and other times I'm fine.

Everyone is different. I eat three times a day. 12noon/6:30pm/1am

very good question this & one id like to know the answer to as i generally dont eat a meal until around 12 noon due to not feeling hungry BUT the wife keeps on telling me i should eat even if its 1 slice of toast.. I usually just have a cup of coffee & prob 2 rich-T biscuits

upon checking my bloods in the morning its usually around 6 to 7 so i just take my 2 x 500 mg Metformin to bring it back down with.. but the docs told me to take them with a meal. if i was to eat at the same time it would go up even more than it is..

so whats right n whats the wrong way.. if its high first thing should i still eat a little something making it more higher.. or is it OK just to take my tablets with just a cuppa & usually 2 rich-T biscuits..

you'll probably be better off eating a small portion for breakfast. The rich T biscuits I'm assuming are refined flour type? They will spike you and then you get sudden drop. You want to eat something to fire up your metabolism for the day. The last thing you want is to make your metabolism sluggish.... diabetes is a metabolic disease and we don't need to make things worse. Everyone is different though, but eating regularly is the better option. :D
