Well I had one of those harsh, stinging reminders, last night ... I made a "Cauligatawny soup" that gets an F. I will be revising recipe, prior to posting ...

but the thing is I added some channa dal flour -- a modest amount, I think maybe 2 TBS per 10 servings of the soup! -- far less than an amount I had consumed about a year ago, but fried, not boiled. But it should still have been quite low-carb, from all other ingredients.

Blood sugar
1 hr post 190
2 hr 180
5 hr 160 ... (midnight)
10 hr on rising, 130 -- and that was after 10 U Levemir.

WOWZA. My body does not handle starch well. Obviously. Holy Moly!

It was a very tasty soup.

Makes me wonder what was happening pre-diagnosis, and for how long.

It is surprising, isn't it? On Wednesday I ate about 4 sections of an orange with lunch and forgot my second little bolus. 3 hours later I tested and was at 190! Sometimes diabetes just sucks.

The Soup Nazi -- PERFECT!

I might go nuts without my soups this winter, though ... just gotta watch the ingredients more carefully.

I was back to normal by lunchtime, at least ... and behaving myself, foodwise!

Oh my...remind me not to make spinach and chickpea (garbanzo) soup again.

It is amazing what can set you off. Are you ok now?

Yep!

I am thinking of trying a cauli and spinach soup, the aforementioned recipe, with cauli standing in for the chickpeas. I have great ideas ...

and I will happily share any recipes that ACTUALLY work!
