Hi my name is Brian.

I was diagnosed with type 2 about a month ago. I was having surgery to remove some screws from my foot I broke 15 years ago. My diabetes was discovered in the pre op tests. I was surprised and in shock. Needless to say surgery was canceled.

I am not new to forums but I am new to diabetes. In the past month I have read a couple books and trolled online for information. It has become clear that the more I learn, the more questions I have. Its my hope that their are people on here that will be kind enough to help me through this.

Welcome to the diabetes club, and to the forum. The shock will wear off. I've been a diabetic for 23 or 24 years, and I have had many surgeries with it, including joint replacements (both hips, and both knees), and stints placed in my heart, so don't think that just because your surgery was canceled, that's it. I'm sure that your surgeon just wants your sugar level under control. So go to a doctor, either your GP, or an endocrinologist (they specialize in diabetes), and they should help you get it under control. Bottom line get your diabetes treated, and follow what the doctor says, take your medication, and you'll live a long, and healthy life.

An last of all, ask questions. Both from your doctors, and the forums.

We've all been through it (first being diagnosed), and your not alone. Just ask questions, and we're here to help if we can.

And B-T-W, there are people on this board (Richard for one that I know of.) who have been diabetic longer than I have.
