I found an interesting article today.

The food pyramid hoax

In part, it says:
Why is the USDA in charge of my food pyramid, when they clearly state on their website that the USDA's strategic plan is to "expand markets for agricultural products and support international economic development."

I agree that the USDA (and many other US agencies, ADA, AHA, etc) have a huge conflict of interest caused by their source of funding. I would rather get my nutritional advice from organizations who aren't funded by pharmaceutical or agricultural companies...

Actually, the part of the USDA responsible for expanding markets for American grains probably doesn't talk much to the part responsible for improving nutrition and health. In fact, they probably compete for funding and are borderline antagonistic. Just my humble POV as a career civil servant (U.S. Department of Energy).

So it follows that the more headlines and they can make, the better, although I doubt it would make sense for them to advise "don't eat grains" :hippie:
