I think I'm going to change my signature. I am going to replace LCHF with KETO. The Consonant, Vowel, Consonant, Vowel sounds less monotonous than Consonant, Consonant, Consonant, Consonant. My LCHF is KETO, but Keto just sounds less bland as a descriptor.

I wonder if any "millennial's" know what a vowel or consonant are?!!

:vs_laugh:
Sure, they do! They just can't write them in cursive (script). :laugh2:

Seriously, after watching our Millennial kids wend their way through phone apps and the like while many Boomers are flummoxed by the concept of email and text messages, I can appreciate the need for different skills in different ages.

So....why do people start to answer a question with "So?"
Why do people answer questions with ... questions? :smile2:

Liiiiiiiiiiiiike...........you prefer to start, like, a question like this way?
And then there's "uptalking", in which sentences end on a HIGHER note?

Very annoying to me.
Does your Dr. tell you where you need to get the "mosquito" to "bite", or can you pick any place?
Many meters are designed to do this; they call it "alternate site testing". PhoenixFire should check if her Accu-Chek does this (even my $20 Target meter does so I would think it would, if it's newer, but it pays to be sure). The paperwork that came with the meter will say; so will the Accu-Chek Web site.

The thing to watch with alternate site testing is that changes in blood glucose levels show up faster in the fingertips than in other parts of the body. This can be an issue if you're testing after a hypoglycemic low, but nobody here is there right now.

Alternate site readings also can be a little "off" compared to fingertip testing, but test both at the same time for a little while and you'll know if it is off and by roughly how much.

I might prick my middle finger sometimes so the index can get a break.
By all means, use all your fingers! You don't always have to pick the same one.

Quick question: Approximately how many prickings can I do before a needle becomes dull?
Hard to say. Depends on how much "work" the lancet has to do (some people have tougher skin, etc.). I usually change my lancet every time I open a new vial of test strips, just to keep things fresh. Some folks go for months with the same lancet. When it occurs to you that pricking your finger hurts more often than it used to, it's time to change the needle.
I ate okay today. Highest number was 11.1, probably because I had strawberries and cottage cheese for lunch. Still, I'm so hungry I could gnaw my own arm off. :(
As fruit goes, strawberries aren't too bad. Many of us can eat a few berries without slamming our blood glucose level. Cottage cheese can be okay, too, if it's the right (full-fat) kind.

PhoenixFire, are you keeping track of what you are eating each day? With low-carb/high-fat or keto, fat should be about 70% of your calories each day. For a 1900-calorie-a-day diet, that's 158 grams of fat. I'm going to guess you're not taking in that much fat, which, without all those carbs in your day, is going to leave you feeling hungry (I can't help the bored part :smile2:).

You might want to find a book/smartphone app/Web site that helps you calculate what you should be eating for your weight/activity levels/etc. Eating more fat (and maybe more protein, too, if you're not eating enough now) will help you feel full longer. It would not hurt to increase the amount of water you drink, too, as your body gets used to eating LCHF/keto. Water will fill you up, too.

HAHA. I don't have a cell phone. I've never had a cell phone. I'll bet you don't know anyone else who doesn't have one. I knew only one other person who didn't have one & she got one last year.
I know people who have cell phones and hardly ever use them. Some of those "drawer fillers" are even smartphones. :surprise: It's odd to think that, 10 years ago, hardly anyone had a smartphone and now there are folks who've owned several.
Drinking my morning coffee from my camping mug so that I can close my eyes and imagine sitting by the campfire.
To paraphrase Dr. Phil, how's that workin' for ya?

Wonder if someone makes a candle that smells like a campfire. Someone must do that...

Keto is "having a moment", as they say. Good for us! It makes it easier to buy groceries, eat at restaurants, and explain to others how and why we're eating the way we do. There still is some misinformation about the WoE out there, but it's nice to not feel quite so far away from the mainstream.

Right now, I'm sort of interested in the idea of doing some yoga.
I took a yoga class once and quit after two sessions because I always came home with a headache and figured that wasn't making me feel as good as yoga promised to make me feel.

I have a niece that's quite into yoga, however, and what I learned from her is that there are many forms of yoga and that the one I tried (without really knowing what yoga was about) was not a good form for me. If you're not already familiar with the varieties of yoga that exist, you might want to see if some are more amenable to your situation than others.

My niece showed me several moves I can do (being far heavier and less limber than many folks edit: me, not her). I've had a hard time lately, though, concentrating enough to make it any part of my routine. But I think that's just me.

So eating mixed nuts really worked out for you this time!

(I find it hard to portion them, myself.)

The grass was greening up last week, fire ant mounds were peaking, today its sleeting.
Heh. We're three or four months away from even seeing our grass again. The high today will be above freezing for the first time in ... quite a while.

But we don't have fire ants. You can keep those!

I got one of those for DW/BH and she loves it! Probably the best gift I ever got her. I'd go crazy sleeping under one, but she finds it very comforting.

I've been trying to buy okra for quite some time.
I've been having the same problem with cauliflower -- fresh is easily found; frozen not so much.

I can find (frozen) okra, however. I've seen it both at an independent grocery store near my home and my food co-op. I suspect, however, that okra is less popular in Minnesota than it is in Arkansas and that that has something to do with not finding it on the shelves, too.

I bought the "economy size" box when I started taking my diabetes seriously. I still have it. The waste associated with one use is simply appalling considering they're used only on me and my clean fingers.

It is amazing how busy you can be after retiring.
When my father said that after he retired, I kind of chuckled inwardly. Once I retired, I understood what he meant. The nice thing is that most of the things we're busy with now are our choice and -- generally -- on our own timetable.

I hope they kept the receipt for that headline....

It's hard to stay on the straight and narrow at all times! Sounds like you found a decent compromise with the honey bun -- but sorry about your finger!
Well I can’t count on always having a homeless fella nearby to share with!
It used to figuratively kill me to throw away something I'd purchased and couldn't (shouldn't) finish eating. Once I figured out that eating all of it eventually would literally kill me, I got over it. I'm still not a fan of tossing perfectly good food -- your method is much better -- but there are times I really really want a taste of something and there is no homeless person nearby. So I buy it, eat a few bites, and I'm okay with what happens after.
A little too tempting for me. And I don't typically go for the honey buns; I go for stuff like french fries and such that don't hold very well. 's OK; I don't have those urges very often.
