'm a type 2 diabetic and since DH and I are thinking of having kids soon, I'm really watching my sugar levels. So I'm buying foods that have less sugar or are artificially sweetened. I try to stay away from aspartame but every one in a while I like a diet soda. I'm looking in my fridge and my low-cal chocolate pudding snack is sweetened with sucralose, so is my yogurt, and I have a bottle of diet dr.pepper (that one does have aspartame). The yogurt and pudding I buy all the time.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm taking in too much of this stuff and if I should be worried about it.

Thoughts?

I agree. I totally changed to diet everything when I was diagnosed and I have read so many bad things about artificial sweeteners and how they cause cancer or diet soda causes stroke. My question would be when one considers that sugar alcohols are metabolized through the liver and not using insulin, does that mean eating too many sugar alcohols are unhealthy for your liver, if so how much?

the sad question is, what else is out there for us?

At least this website gives us sponsored-links to all the artificial sweeteners we need!

Anything that is labeled "sugar free" sends me into intestinal "fits". I have not been able to pin it down to one certain sweetener, it may be quantity as opposed to type in my case. I wish there were something else to try that I could actually afford and didn't get all the bad press.

Truvia is my go to sweetner now :) I found like the other poster here, that equal or sweet n low and some others tended to drive my sugars up, as do diet colas.

Its tough to find the best one I agree. I do like the taste of Splenda, but if I drink enough of it I have to account for it with my insulin because it will raise my sugar. I dont really care for Equal but my mother liked it the best. I havent tried the Truvia yet, I have been meaning to though.
