Hi folks. I wish I could contribute as much as ask questions. Thank you for all your advice.

The dentist told me I had an infected absess (sp?) for the last 3 months (who knew?... no pain). Would this affect scores? He didn't know...

On another note, I know that after my prostate biopsy last week my scores are skyrocketing (maybe cuz I couldn't really exercise during the week). Don't know if it's the stress or the physical intrusion.

Hello Bruce: :)

Good to see you. Ask whatever you want to. We're here to help you, if we can. You'll never know everything about Diabetes like most of us don't but with what you learn you can help other Diabetics. Especially those who don't have computers.

Sorry to hear of your abscess. That's funny in a way though. I had an abscess also and didn't feel any pain. Most are in terrible pain.

My Dentist told me that he worries more about Insulin dependant Diabetics because it's injected not natural. So he likes anyone on Insulin to watch their sugars.

Stress is definitely a culprit when most go to the Dentist. My sugars drop when I'm stressed. I'm in the minority. Most People's sugar rises when they are stressed.

Diabetics should go to the Dentist's in the morning after they have looked after their Dawn Phenomenom with medications and have had a decent breakfast.

Gee, I hope that your biopsy results are Good. It would be the worry and stress of the results and the pain plus the lack of exercise that would raise your sugars. Unless you were put on a drug that raises them.

Maybe you need to have your meds, altered a bit also if your sugars don't settle down soon. I do hope that everything works out for you Bruce.

Thanks Terrie. (I'm not on meds... yet)

Probably the stress. Of more concern, my wife was dx'd with cancer last fall (low grade non hodgkin's lymphoma) and her first blood test is this week to see if it is getting worse. We'll probably both get our results around the same time.

WoW! That's so Sad to hear. Normally blood sugars go up from immediate stress but being under all of that sure doesn't help any. I Really pray that both of your results come out Good. Seriously though, if your sugars don't settle down after your incision heals and you get exercising again, please see your Dr. about meds. to help keep them down. If you are not eating low carb. meals, I'd try that before meds. Good Wishes to you both.

Well... good news. My wife's non-hodgkin's lymphoma has not progressed. Whew. Also just found out that they haven't found any cancer with my last biopsy.

My scores have been averaging between 10 and 15 ever since the biopsy (also absessed tooth dx) 2 weeks ago. Tried to see my doc, couldn't get in, so went to clinic today. After two weeks of these higher scores clinic doc put me on metformin. In fact it hit 19.5 tonight so hit the treadmill and got it to 13.

This is weird, before the biopsy, scores were between 4 and 9 most of the time during the day (diet and exercise was working), now always in the teens.

C'est la vie I guess.

Whew! You're right on that one. You couldn't ask for better news on you and your Wife's test results. Congratulations! Great news! :D
Thanks for gettng back to us on that Bruce.

I was wondering if you had a fever with your abscess? A fever always makes my sugar rise plus you had so many things at once, affecting you.

I'm Glad that the Dr. put you on Metformin and that it has brought your sugars down some. But it's still too high obviously. How many mgs. are you taking? Are you able to exercise yet?

What is happening with the abscess? Did the Dentist put you on antibiotics? Does he think that you'll need a root canal? That sometimes happens.

Thanks Terrie.

Actually it was only yesterday the dr prescribed metformin, so took my first one (1/2 850mg) with bkfst according to her schedule of gradual introduction.

Although I mentioned antibiotics for my tooth, the dr didn't prescribe... assumedly because I have neither fever or pain. Root canal is scheduled for June... requires a specialist since they have to drill through a crown to get at it; and does require a root canal.

I've been back to walking the dog daily at a quick pace and will try and hit the gym today, so exercise is not yet up to speed.

I'm pretty sure my high score of 19 last night was a result of too much rice at dinner.

Hi: :)

Oh gee, only yesterday with the Metformin. I hope that she mentioned about the stomach discomfort that it causes most. It does go away usually in a month or so.

The Dentist would have prescribed you the antibiotic. My Dentist gave me the antibiotic to make sure the abscess was totally gone before he worked on my tooth. I had one abscess on the left side and I didn't need a root canal but the one on the right did. That was Fun! :D My Dentist did my root canal but I had a Specialist to remove my wisdom teeth since I couldn't stand the crunching sound. All I remember is that he had this weird musical video for me to watch on the ceiling. Um....Ya.

Yes, white rice, pasta, potatoes, white bread, etc. does raise the blood sugars. That's why I only eat small portions of each. Brown rice and brown bread, I do eat. Boiled and mashed caulyflower with a bit of butter and spices are Good sometimes instead of potatoes. Sweet potatoes are supposed to have less carbs.

I'm Glad to hear that your doggie isn't suffering anymore from lack of exercise. ;) Just take it slow until you are up to speed. YW Bruce.

Bruce, you DO contribute when you ask questions. That gives us all a chance to research and learn. I'm glad things are working out for you and your wife and your test results for both of you were good. Great news.
