I thought it might be fun to have an ongoing chat thread for totally random off topic thoughts.

I spent the weekend exploring the city (San Antonio, Texas) for some urban photography shots and hanging out with my grandkids.

It has definitely been a Monday. No less than 3 times I have reached for the same empty coffee cup. I was 99% certain that I had re-filled it, but once again it is empty. Since I tend to be on the ADHD side, I figured I must have gotten distracted and simply hadn't done it. To make a long story even longer, I just walked into the kitchen, very deliberately to get coffee this time - to FINALLY actually fill my coffee cup and found that the pot was empty. It's official. I have lost my mind.
As long as you were able to "find" the coffee pot you are doing very well...! If I find myself looking in the 'Frig' and then realize I came into the kitchen to get more coffee...then I know it is going to be a bad day...:laugh2:

A thought for today!

While watching one of the ‘Never Ending’ advertisements on drugs for people with Type II diabetes, I had the thought that anytime an advertisement spends a large portion of time warning listeners of all the possible side effects of that drug, then you have to question if that drug is really something I should ever consider?
itissteve.....I can only speak from my experience.

I was put on Januvia 8 or 9 years ago by my doctor, he said it would help me control my blood sugar. I trusted that and my doctor gave me no warning about the drug. I just started taking it as prescribed. Over a period of time maybe 2-3 months I started getting congestion in my lungs and every time this problem started it came on quick. Over a period of a few days turned into a full case of bronchitis's. I have never been prone to this, but when I had the first one, I did not think much about it. I eventually went to my doctor and he gave me antibiotics which in turn cleared up the infection. Then within a few weeks it came on again, with the same result. I still thought it must just be my diabetes and the fact I was getting older. Then within a few weeks, bang...same thing! This went of through 5 or six infections, when I started asking questions and doing research on Januvia....and their it was....can cause upper respiratory infections!

I got off the Januvia and have not had an upper respiratory infection since. On top of that, Januvia had no visible improvement on my blood sugar readings....it only made me sick!

I changed doctors, but regardless, I avoid taking any new meds, if told I must, you can bet I will do my own research before agreeing to take them.....I trust no one but myself when it comes to my health.....

I've always wondered why they go through the list anyway. My understanding is that not that many people need to experience the side effect for it to be listed, so the lists get long. But 98% of the world for whom that particular drug is of no value get to sit through the hurried recitation.

Shouldn't the benefits and side effects be something your health provider discusses with you as part of using that drug in treatment?
I think legally they are now required to disclose all known side effects.

You suggest that 98% of people using the drugs do not experience side effects....do you have any data or articles to support that number?

Of course doctors and medical providers should discuss potential side effects, my experience is that they do not!
Kids are great, I raised 3! They all in turn, blessed us with 6 Grandkids....who was it that said, something like this... "Don't be sad when your kids leave home, they will return and there will be more of them"! That is true, and Grandkids are your reward for raising your kids well! Grandkids can do no wrong...love them all! Here are two of our youngest Grandkids....the red hair is from Grandma...

My family - Canadian Navy and US Air force. My Uncle served on an Aircraft Carrier and us Fletchers have been living on both sides of the US/Canadian boarder for centuries, (dual citizens) so we have both a Canadian and American Military History of serving.

By the way my daughter was on maneuvers last year in Florida with the US Navy - she said it was a very humbling experience as the number ships and crew for the US Navy was quite impressive.
You have to be real proud of those young adults....!

Hmmm...... Fill me in on this. Do you put the butter in the coffee? I put lots of half and half in mine.
Half and half is higher carb than Heavy Whipping Cream! I use HWC only...
