Talk with the department heads at your grocery. Many drop prices during the week, but have a specific day of the week that they deep discount the meats and veggies they have to get rid of tomorrow. I am usually the first person who walks through the door when my local grocery opens on Sunday ... and I head straight for the meats aisle. I have gotten $20 steaks for $3 that way.

Also, do the same research at any other groceries close to you.

Check the meat aisle carefully. Many stores have a corner where they put odd cuts and pieces they hope to sell at almost any price. Ditto some veggie areas.

Aldi is amazing. If you have one near you, please explore it.

And I hope the library has that book thank Richard 157
If it doesn't, and they subscribe to Interlibrary Loan, then they can get it for you from another library anywhere in the US. (I use this all the time to get books our library doesn't have.)

Also many libraries now are getting in the ebook times. Many will loan ebook copies just like paper copies. And since it's an ebook there's nothing to return when finished and no worries about forgetting the book.
