Vanadium?

Some of the books I've purchased about diabetes recommend the supplement vanadium, said to be useful in lowering glucose levels and helpful in increasing insulin sensitivity for Type 2 diabetics. I did a quick Google search and decided not to purchase supplements. Research is scanty on humans and there seem to be serious risks of toxicity.
