I got a free OneTouch Ultra 2 when I attended diabetes classes two years ago. I have been using that meter almost exclusively for these past two years. On that meter, my glucoses almost always run between 100 and 115 fasting or pre-meal. Okay, not bad but I couldn't understand why I could rarely get below 100. Well, I answered an ad for a free Freestyle Lite meter and I also had a coupon for a free OneTouch UltraMini meter. The Ultra Mini uses the same strips as my Ultra 2 and the Freestyle Lite came with 10 free test strips. So I tested my glucose right now and I tested on all three meters. The Freestyle Lite gave me a reading of 88, the OneTouch mini gave me a reading of 84, the Ultra 2 gave me a reading of 104. Several weeks ago I compared my Ultra 2 to a co-workers meter and again my Ultra 2 read about 20 points higher than hers.

I think my glucoses have been better than I thought. My last A1C, just earlier this week was 5.9% and my glucose after a 10 hour fast was 96. I think I am going to retire my OneTouch Ultra 2.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Good thing I don't dose insulin off my glucose numbers. Geeze!!

Ruby, I have not heard of a meter always giving results in a type band like 100-115 like that before. I don't think anybody has control that tight so it must be a defective meter. I use the Free Style Lite and I like it very much. I also use a Relion meter, Walmart's brand. Those two meters agree very closely. The strips for the Free Style cost about 3 times as much as the Relion strips. I use the Free Style strips that my insurance provides and when they are gone I use my Relion until my next shipment of Free Style strips arrives.

I am glad that you have retired your old meter. I never use a meter more than 2 years. Some people change even more often than that.

Ah, that's good to know, that many people never use a meter more than two years. I have the FreeStyle Lite, too, and I do like it a lot. I appreciate the port light and I like that you can set a timer to remind you to test. I use that feature at work when I get busy I sometimes forget when two hours after a meal has rolled around.
