Strange day, readings-wise. Maybe my digestion is a little outta whack, but I didn't feel like my usual breakfast today & even though my stomach rumbled, I didn't feel hungry. I finally made toast from a thin bun, despite the whole bun being 17g carbs. I had wakened to 101 (5.6), but an hour or so after that toasted thin bun, I popped up to 145 (8.05)! Figured okay - so I deserved that for eating the thin bun, and I tested again in another hour to be sure I was dropping back down. Holy macaroni - I was 75 (4.16)! (not sure I've ever been under 80 before!) We had our BALT wraps for supper, and an hour later I'm back in my usual groove - 117 (6.5). So this little merry-go-round can just stop spinning any time now - I know the numbers aren't extreme - it's just quite a spread for me in a fairly short time. I'm not used to bouncing around!

That's interesting. I read so much about how lower readings were good for you that I was super enthusiastic about them when I started on insulin.

The lower the better it seemed. (That's not at all true and I've changed my mind about this. I don't do it any more. Don't do it, that was one of the dummer things I've done, and I've had significant accomplishments in that area.)

Anyway, I often had readings in the low 30s, and I measured them myself, so I wasn't unconscious. Might not have scored genius on an iq test, but at least I was still standing up. :)

I did also have readings in the 20s, but not really often. It seems like I built up a tolerance for low bg because I kept it that way for so long.

It's OK Shanny - everyone has a weird day now and then. In fact, although my BG was fantastic for my just-ended 3 1/2 week sojourn to central Ontario, Canada, it's been awful since the day after we got back home. I think I may have picked up a little bug on the plane, so maybe that 'splains it. Grrr. I feel like eating a bag of M&M's with a Lay's Potato Chip chaser!

I hope you haven't caught a bug, but I know I had really good stable low levels during the week we spent on the road for the family reunion & it all went "splat" when we got home.

All I need to hear is M&Ms followed with a chips chaser, because I already went bonkers tonight & ate several spoonfuls of full sugar blackberry jelly on a thin bun. I was headed for one of DH's English muffins & detoured to the thin buns, but I'm not sure what good that did! I knew I was gonna do it & I did it, so what good low-carb bread did is prob'ly just assuage my guilty conscience!
It sure as heck didn't help my BG!

Don't feel bad, I got out the can of Reddi Whip tonight and just kept eating it. I am going to bed very soon, eating this whipped cream was stupid, but I did it....

My 71'st birthday was yesterday (Sept 10) and we ate lunch at Pizza Hut! I rarely eat pizza, but I wanted some soooo bad. 80 carbs, 13.3 units of bolus insulin!!! :( I stayed stable for two hours and was 167 an hour after that. I am not used to being that high and I felt sick. I took most of my pump's recommended correction and walked outdoors for one hour. One hour after my walk, I had dropped to 55. I have no trouble at that level, but it is somewhat unpleasant, to say the least. Was it all worth all that, to have the pizza??? Darn right it was!! :p I might do it again for Halloween. :D

Happy Birthday from a 68 year old

yeah, the Yo-Yo effect is no fun, my BG refused to drop below 137 so i forced it a little with only 2.5 mg of Glyburide, it dropped to 61, not pleasant at all!

Belated birthday wishes Richard! I'm coming up behind you quite fast!

No it wasn't worth it really to have the pizza - was it?

I used to eat loads of pizza - quite often with pasta to start and sometimes with a garlic bread on the side  - when I was following the "eat plenty of starchy carbohydrate" advice. That was before I started testing. Heaven only knows what my blood glucose readings would have been. I keep well away from all of that stuff these days - even on my birthdays!

Best wishes - John

Good for you, Richard! Sorry for the rollercoaster, but glad you celebrated with a rare bite of pizza. What kind was it? heheh! :D

Shanny, it was a thin crust, medium sized supreme pizza, at Pizza Hut. 22 carbs per slice. I had 3 slices and a salad. My wife had 3 slices. that left 3 more slices to bring home. I had a cold slice with coffee for breakfast this morning. :p
