The last post i have given here was about 3 months ago. that time my fasting was 103 which was a gradual decrease from 152.

After that i suddenly started smoking voluminously and one day suddenly have loose motion. On measuring Fasting B.S. it was 96. first i was very happy but then in the next moment i doubt my Accucheck machine and measured again. To my utter surprise it shows 133. I measured again and this time 98. i got frightened and quit smoking completely. Also my lower leg (both the limbs) is having tremendous itch.It was such that one day bleeding happened while itching.

After that almost two months have gone with utmost restriction on diet and everything but it is still fluctuating with some itching on the left leg, is it that i have damaged my KIDNEY or my LIVER? Will i be able to cure this fluctuation.

i do not believe in doctors in india. they are more like buisnessman than like passionate about their profession.

Keep in mind - the lower leg itching may be caused by environmental factors and have nothing to do with your diabetes. I have itchy lower legs in the winter time because we heat our home with wood and during those cold winter months I sit in front of the fire with my legs stretched out. It gives me dry skin and thus the itching.

Now that the winter is over - no fires and no itchy legs :smile2: So if your lucky there could be a simple environmental explanation for your itchy lower leg.

If you live in uttar pradesh - they just experienced massive dust storms - that would probably be enough to cause something like that.

i live in kolkata.

i know this itching is not for any environment. this is the first time i experience it at the age of 45. i stayed in even hotter place than the current place but nothing happened.

I am more concerned with that fluctuation.

Hello! We probably mentioned when you last posted here that we are not qualfied as doctors to evaluate your individual condition, so we can't say for sure what is happening.

However, our mass of experience tells us that dry skin is not uncommon in diabetics. Dry skin also is not uncommon in smokers. And diabetes and smoking can change the body's response to other illnesses or conditions, making the body more susceptible to a condition or making a medical issue worse than it would be for non-diabetics or non-smokers. (On the other hand, not every medical problem people will have is caused by diabetes [or whatever other chronic condition people have that becomes a handy hat rack for lazy diagnoses].)

So, as rsf posted, it's very likely that something changed in your body and higher blood glucose readings may have had something to do with it. Humans can develop allergies to a substance at any time. Weather does change (wetter seasons, different clothing materials, etc.). I've even known people whose skin reacted to a new laundry powder! Or (not to frighten you but) there are other health issues which can cause severe itching. Or it may be "ordinary" itching for others but more of an itch for diabetics. But it seems unlikely high BG is causing this issue for you.

As for the BG fluctuations, they do happen. There are enough variables in testing blood at home (blood sample size, quality control of the test strip, ambient humidity, and so on) that a difference of 35 points is unusual but not life-threatening in the number range you mentioned. Many times when I get a meter reading I don't expect, I will test again and sometimes even a third time to see if two of the numbers are close to the same. That's the number I act on.

Without any test results, it's impossible to say at this time if your liver or kidneys are damaged. If you have been keeping your BG levels at or below that 133, however, you are below the BG threshold that many specialists believe damages organs (140) and even if you exceed that number at times, you still likely are limiting your liver and kidneys to exposure at those dangerous levels.

There was a time when I suffered from eczema in my left foot (instep and ankle areas). I suggest you get professional advice from a dermatologist to accurately determine the itching in your legs. If it's eczema (characterized by dry flaking scabs), I highly recommend using steroidal creams or ointments ---- I tried heaps of home remedies and none of them helped. Eczema is a ***** and it took almost 3 months before it was totally eradicated. Just my two cents worth. Peace and Advanced Happy New Year.
